Initial Ideas Statement

I went through multiple ideas for the production of my magazine. I looked through multiple magazines online trying to give me ideas. I first came up with the idea of doing a magazine based on the 'house' genre of music but couldn't think of a way to link this in with my photos and also did not know much about the house genre of music at the time.

I then came up with the idea of doing a magazine on the rap genre. I drew out multiple drafts of what my front cover would look like and liked the idea. Whilst making the front cover in one of my media lessons. I went on to Capital FM and saw the idea of doing a magazine not on a genre but rather a culture of chart music whilst mixing indie in to the magazine in a way. Luckily I had not come far in the production of my Rap magazine and could use most of the features I had already added to my front cover.

However, once i got to my DPS, I struggled a lot on the design when. I could not come up with a layout for it. I began to google samples of Double Page Spreads and found a DPS on Wiz Khalifa in which the design really attracted me to it. So I used the DPS as a template for my magazines Double Page Spread.

Lucky I had no other struggles throughout the production of my magazine after I had come up with the layout of my DPS.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The company that I have chosen that would produce and distribute my Magazine is a 'little known' company called 'Maker Media'. This is because the company focuses mainly on the indie side of their magazines. This will fit in well with my magazine as my magazine is also a representation of indie culture.

Maker magazine is very much new on the scene releasing its first issue in 2013. I believe Maker Media needs to produce more magazine brands as currently, they only produce and distribute maker magazine and being as their interest is indie, my magazine would be a perfect option for them to begin producing.

Being as Maker Magazine is set towards an older audience, my magazine would also be a good option for Maker Media as my magazines target audience is a lower age range. This would mean that if Maker Media began producing my magazine, they would be covering a larger age range.
Being my magazine covers a younger audience (15-25 year olds), my magazine would also be published online via my magazines own website, blogs, advertisements, social media and also sponsors. Taking my magazine online would be a good choice by Maker Media as my target audience is proven to be the age range that spends the largest amount of time online, whether it be social media, blogging etc.

Maker Media should also choose to distribute my magazine as my magazine is UK based whereas Maker Magazine is US based. Producing and distributing my magazine would mean Maker Media would be covering a wider range of audience in different regions of the world. This would be a step further in Maker Media becoming a very well known Magazine Producer.
